What is The HCG Diet?

Anyone who has tried to lose weight through conventional dieting knows how frustrating the experience can be. The drastic reduction in calories required to see significant weight loss in a short period of time requires a will power that most of us just don’t have.

With a standard calorie restriction diet we quickly end up feeling tired and unable to cope with everyday tasks because we simply aren’t getting enough energy from our diet.

And with the constant temptation of easily accessible fast food and advertising that drives us to eat, it is no wonder that statistics say that 95% of people who try to lose weight will fail over the long term.

Even if you can resist this constant temptation to eat most dieters experience the problem of “stubborn” fat. This is fat that seem nearly impossible to lose no matter what kind of foods you eat or how you exercise.

You may find that while you are able to lose fat on some parts of your body other areas seem completely resistant to fat loss. Often people experience this with tummy or thigh fat. As you will see there are different “types” of fat which is why on a standard diet certain areas seem to never slim down.

What we all wish is that there was something that we could do that would make losing weight as effortless as it was to put it on.

Thankfully there is such a diet and it has achieved dramatic weight loss results for celebrities such as Britney Spears and the Jersey Shore girls Snooki and J-Woww as well as tens of thousands of ordinary everyday people who want to look their best.

The HCG diet will allow you to massively reduce your calorie intake while removing the desire and the need to eat more. Most people who implement the HCG diet experience the complete lack of desire to eat beyond the 500 calories a day that is mandated by the diet. And because you are tapping into the bodies existing three energy reserves you will be able to restrict your calories without feeling tired and run down.

In addition because of how the HCG diet affects the stores of fat in your body you will find that even areas that were previously resistant to fat loss seem to effortlessly shed fat. This is fantastic news for people who have experienced frustration with fat loss in the past even when they felt they were doing everything right in terms of exercise and diet.

So what is HCG?

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone that is naturally produced by women during pregnancy. It has been shown to trigger the release of stored up fat in the human body which is key to its role in weight loss.

The hormone can be artificially taken through the use of supplements triggering the same effect by both male and females. While the hormone is naturally produced in pregnancy it is still safe for men as well as women to use for weight loss.

Dr Albert T.W. Simeons

Over fifty years ago Dr Albert T.W. Simeons published the book “Pounds and Inches” which would introduce his ideas on human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and how it affected weight loss. It is this book that still provides the template used by people today to lose weight using the HCG diet.

While it is Dr Simeons contribution to weight loss that he is most well known he also contributed significantly to other areas of medical science. At the time he wrote “Pounds and Inches” Dr Simeons was one of

four of the most distinguished endocrinologists in his field. His studies of tropical diseases helped pave the way to treatments in many otherwise untreatable conditions

It was when he was performing research work in India that he started to make his first discoveries into the HCG diet. Dr Simeons wanted to know what it was that why pregnant women who were severely undernourished were still able to deliver perfectly healthy babies.

His studies led him to discover that it was the HCG hormone that the body was releasing that was allowing women who were not consuming sufficient calories through their diet to still nourish their unborn children.

Dr Simeons realized that the HCG hormone was allowing the women to tap into stored fat and then release this as a source of energy. This scientific discovery would form the foundation of the diet which is now known as the HCG Diet.

An Overview of HCG Diet

Here will take a broad overview of the HCG diet so you can understand its key components and what will be required.

  • Daily consumption of either Oral HCG Drops or Medically Prescribed HCG. Both have the same results, but going through a doctor will cost you about $1500-$2000 as opposed to  the drops being around $100-150

  • While on the HCG diet you will consume no more than 500-700 calories a day

  • Consume only lean protein and certain vegetables and fruits

  • No intense exercise due to the low number of calories beingconsumed

Why You Need To Take HCG

Why You Need To Take HCG
It is very important to understand that the HCG is not just a 500-700 calorie diet and that HCG is essential for the diet to work. Here are the two reasons why HCG must be part of the diet:

Stops Hunger

Typically if you were trying to consume only 500 calories a day you would experience near constant hunger. This would make it virtually impossible and unhealthy to continue with the diet to the point where you would see the results that you desire.
However because you are also taking the HCG supplement while on the diet your body will be expending up the stored body fat and releasing this as energy rather than requiring energy from the food that you consume. This is why you are able to eat so few calories a day without experiencing hunger. Also because your body is able to efficiently tap into the bodies’ natural store of energy you are able to consume little in the way of food without depleting your energy levels.
Most people who go on the HCG diet experience little or no feelings of hunger. Many people even state that the though of eating more than the set 500 calories revolted them. Also most are able to function normally while on the diet without the loss of energy that is sometimes experienced on other diets.
It is worth noting that during the first week of the HCG diet you may experience some hunger pangs. This is the body adjusting to the new diet regime. However if you continue with the diet then this hunger should begin disappear in the second week.

Targets Stored Fat

The other reason that you need to HCG is to target the stored fat that is often resistant to other forms of weight loss. To explain how this works we need to understand the different types of fat in the body.
Normal Fat This store of fat is easy for the body to tap into and thus easy to lose. If you have been on a weight loss diet in the past and lost body fat it was likely this normal fat that you lost.
Structural Fat The second type of fat is structural fat. This is a kind of protective found that can be found cushioning the arteries and body organs as well as protecting protruding bones. This type of fat is vital for a healthy body and should never be lost. The problems with a typical starvation diet is that once the normal fat has been exhausted you will start to tap into the structural fat and this is where health problems start to occur.
Abnormal Fat This is the last kind of fat and the fat that is most resistant to dieting. This fat is an evolutionary remnant where starvation was a real and common threat. This fat would be the body’s last resort to help humans survive even when there was no food for prolonged periods of time. Unfortunately because the body is reluctant to tap into this supply of last resort it can be very  difficult to lose this body fat. However HCG allows the body to naturally and effortlessly tap into this energy source making it no harder to lose this fat than normal fat.

Exercising on the HCG diet

Unlike with many other diets the HCG diet does not require exercise as one of the components and actually restricts intensive exercise. Because you are only consuming 500 calories a day an intense work out may leave you energy deprived and feeling light headed.
It is however recommended that you walk 20 – 30 minutes a day as this will help provide cardiovascular benefits as well as helping to relieve stress and making you feel better overall. If you currently exercise on a regular basis you should cut back to walking for the period that you are taking HCG and then resume once you have ended the diet.

The Phases of the HCG diet

The HCG diet is broken down into three distinct stages. Each of these stages are important in order for the diet to work correctly and allow you to lose the maximum amount of body fat. It is important that you follow the three stages of the diet precisely as laid out.

Phase One
This phase lasts for between 2 – 3 days during which you will be eating a high calorie and high fat diet while you are taking HCG. This phase is also known as the “gorge” phase because the purpose is to eat as much as possible.
During this phase your body will try to store new fat and lipids from the food that you are consuming. However the HCG will stop the body from storing these fats and lipids and instead mobilize your current stores of fat. It is important that
you follow this phase and not begin calorie restriction immediately as you need to “prep” your body first.

During phase one it is also recommended that you do the following:
•    Increase your daily water consumption (8 -12 glasses a day)
•    Walk for at least one hour each day
•    Eat at least one apple or breadfruit each day

Phase Two
This is the main part of the HCG diet. During this phase you should be limiting your calorie intake to 500 calories and following the dietary restrictions that are detailed in this book. You will also continue to take HCG daily. During this phase you should experience rapid fat loss with half a pound a day being common in the early stages of this phase. You can continue on this phase for a period of up to 60 days.
You should also maintain a high consumption of water during this phase (8 – 12 glasses) and not include more than four different foods with each of your meals.
Phase Three
This phase is known as the rest phase. During this phase you should lift your calorie intake up to 1200 – 1500 calories a day. However you must not consume milk and you should stick to the low fat foods detailed in this book. During this phase you will stop taking HCG. This lenght of this phase varies, depending how long you wish to do the diet for.

It is important that HCG is halted during the rest phase if you need to repeat another cycle of the HCG diet to lose more body fat. If you continue to take HCG between phases your body will become habituated to HCG and it will cease to be effective.

Foods allowed on the HCG Diet

White Fish

The HCG offers arguably the easiest way to rapidly achieve weight loss. It is important however that when using the HCG diet that all of the rules are carefully observed and the calorie restriction does not occur with supplementing with HCG.

If you have had trouble with persistent fat in the past or have failed to achieve the kind of weight loss results that you desire on other diets then you should not believe that there is no hope for you to achieve the body that you desire. If the HCG diet followed correctly rapid weight loss is inevitable.

Countless people who have struggled with weight loss in the past have achieved dramatic results on the HCG diet.
